Geek Girl Heaven
The last several days have been like a whirlwind for me, almost too much good stuff for this geek girl to cope with.
On Thursday night, I got to see an advance screening of Serenity, Joss Whedon's new film based on his Firefly series. Oh, wow, was that good. I'm still buzzing from that. If you missed this series while it was on the air, get the DVDs or watch the Sci Fi Channel starting in July. He does for science fiction what he did for horror with Buffy.
Then the next morning I opened my e-mail and found a review of my book, Enchanted, Inc. from the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, written by Charles de Lint. He's an author I've read and admired, and he essentially wrote a two-page essay on why my book is a refreshing take on the fantasy genre. I'd worried that the core fantasy community would sneer at my chick lit/fantasy hybrid, but he seems to have entirely embraced it as a fantasy novel.
Last night, I saw my book in a store for the first time. It looked pretty nice on that new fiction table.
I just finished my new web site, so check out my site for more information on me and the book.
And, finally, tomorrow is the official release date. My baby is going out into the world!

Hey Shanna, I love your new site. I have Enchanted, Inc. on order and can't wait to read it. I really enjoyed your talk on Saturday about Chick Lit and Jane Austen. I think you should give it at the RWA conference. Congratulations on the great reveiw! ~ Catherine
Thanks! I may propose that workshop for RWA next year. I didn't have my thoughts pulled together in time this year, but I am part of a panel (along with my agent) on building a chick lit career for this year's conference.
Hi Shanna,
I am a HUGE Firefly fan and can not wait to see Serenity! It's about time (wasn't the movie release pushed back several times?). Hopefully, the series will come back. Please please.
I'm looking forward to reading Enchanted, Inc. It sounds wonderful!

Shanna, if Charles de Lint wrote something about my story I would have it tattooed on my person.
Then I would make arrangements to be mummified after I die so that I would have his words...for an eternity.
You seem awefully calm about this.
Heck, the space shuttle would have heard me screaming from Jersey if I were you.
Congrats.
Two pages? TWO? By Charles de Lint???
Sigh.
I believe that I need to buy some razor blades to slit my wrists.
Oy!
I'd had the weekend to calm down after seeing the de Lint review. I was mostly incoherent Friday. There was a lot of sobbing and squealing. That's why it took me so long to get around to posting about it.
I'm thinking of stitching it into a cross-stitch sampler and hanging it in my living room.
Last I heard, the Serenity release date is still September 30. The print I saw wasn't complete. I don't know if the overwhelming screening response will affect the final release date.
Ohmigish Shanna!! I am a HUGE Firefly fan and tried everything to get a ticket when it showed in Seattle! You lucky girl.
Enchanted sounds great! Congrats on the review.
They're supposedly doing another round of Serenity screenings on June 23, so keep your eyes peeled for ticket info. It's probably best to surf the major boards instead of looking at the official site because people figured out how to get tickets before it was posted officially, and some of the screenings were even sold out before they were posted officially.
